Neighborhood Watch is not a group of vigilantes. Neighborhood Watch is a group of civic-minded citizens with only one purpose in mind. TO STOP CRIME from striking in their neighborhood. Neighborhood Watch is about being a GOOD neighbor and being attentive to what is happening in your neighborhood.
Many times, police officers have responded to a home where a crime had taken place and have heard neighbors saying, "Oh, I heard glass breaking about an hour ago, but I didnt want to call for nothing." Or, "I saw a strange man in my neighbors house while they were away, but I thought he was watching it for them." This is the type of thinking the criminal counts on. On the other hand, it is the type of thinking we all must stop. The police and the public have to work together to make an impact on CRIME.
Most burglaries are committed by young, amateur criminals and are committed during the daylight hours.
A burglars favorite is to ring the door bell in the front of your home and wait a few minutes to see if someone will answer. If no one answers, they walk around the back of your home looking for an easy way into your house.....an open window; a key left under a plant; or just a door left open. Most burglaries do not involve forced entry. Burglary is one of the easiest crimes to prevent, but one of the hardest crimes to solve.
Participating In A Neighborhood Watch Program Is Easy And Requires Little Individual Effort. More Importantly, It Protects You And Your Family And Keeps Your Neighborhood A Safe And Enjoyable Place To Live.
